Wales Fires Manager Rob Page After Euro 2024 Qualification Failure
Wales has dismissed Rob Page from his role as head coach of the men’s national team following their failure to qualify for Euro 2024.
During his tenure, Page led Wales to their first World Cup appearance in 64 years in 2022. However, recent weeks saw mounting pressure after the team missed out on Euro 2024 qualification.
Despite receiving backing from the Football Association of Wales (FAW) after a penalty shootout loss to Poland, Page’s position came into question following lackluster friendly performances against Gibraltar and Slovakia earlier in June.
“On behalf of myself and the entire FAW, I want to thank Rob for his dedication and commitment to his roles within our national teams,” said FAW chief executive Noel Mooney.
“Under Rob Page’s leadership, our men’s team achieved significant milestones and victories, notably securing our first World Cup qualification in 64 years.”
Page, who earned 41 international caps as a player, initially took over from Ryan Giggs on an interim basis in 2020, having previously coached the Welsh under-21 side.
His managerial career began at Port Vale and included a stint at Northampton Town after retiring from playing in 2011.
Wales’ participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar marked the highlight of Page’s tenure, as the nation returned to the global stage for the first time since 1958.
