The vocalist disclosed that she seldom clinches awards in Nigeria due to her refusal to comply with organizers’ demands for sexual favors.
The ‘Johnny’ crooner unveiled this during an interview with WithinNigeria, asserting that numerous industry figures have previously propositioned her for sex, pledging enhanced prospects.
She affirmed her lack of regret in rebuffing such advances, emphasizing her preservation of dignity and loyal fanbase.
She reflected on a time in the industry when she encountered pressure to compromise her principles, stating, “There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that. Today men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria.'”
She added, “Going down that path was akin to a hurdle I had to overcome to access certain platforms, secure deals, and even garner awards. However, upon resolving never to engage in such activities for personal gain, numerous opportunities were consequently barred for me.”
