The Federal Government approves N25,000 in doctor’s fees.

In an effort to resolve the ongoing strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors, the Federal Government has granted approval for a unique allowance of N25,000 to be paid to medical and dental doctors working in federal hospitals, medical centers, and clinics. This allowance will be funded from the overhead budget, as stated by Ekpo Nta, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the national salary and wages commission.

Moreover, the Federal government has issued circulars addressing some of the doctors’ demands, such as the Circular on Review of CONMESS, which proposes a 25% increase for CONMESS levels one to six (1-6) and a 35% increase for CONMESS level seven (7). Another circular pertains to the Review of CONHESS, suggesting a 25% raise for CONHESS levels one to fourteen (1-14) and a 35% raise for CONHESS level fifteen (15). Additionally, there is a circular addressing Hazard Allowance for Doctors working outside hospitals.

The resident doctors commenced an indefinite strike on July 25, with their demands encompassing immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), prompt release of the circular on one-for-one replacement, payment of skipping arrears, and an upward review of CONMESS to restore it to the 2014 value.
