Born Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo on June 9, 1980, D’banj is a multi-talented Nigerian artist known for his prowess in music, singing, songwriting, entrepreneurship, television hosting, and rapping. His accolades include winning prestigious music awards such as Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards. Additionally, he received the Evolution award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards.
D’banj adopted his stage name by combining his first name, Dapo, with his surname, Oyebanjo. Internationally, he gained recognition for his 2012 summer hit “Oliver Twist,” a lively blend of Afrobeat and electronic dance music that dominated African charts in 2011 and climbed to the top 10 of the UK singles chart in 2012, peaking at No. 2 on the UK R&B chart.
