A Lady with Sickle Cell Shares Pregnancy Journey and Challenges. A young Nigerian woman with sickle cell disease has documented her nine-month pregnancy journey, detailing the difficulties she faced before welcoming her baby.
Using TikTok, Adetoyinbo Folashade shared her pregnancy story, revealing the challenges she encountered as a sickle cell patient.
In her video posted by @folabeautifier, Folashade discussed overcoming common pregnancy symptoms like nausea and cold, but her situation took a turn three weeks before delivery when she developed a severe cough and her PCV dropped to 24%.
Hospitalized and spending the crossover night into 2024 there, despite feeling better, she experienced serious breathing problems and contractions just before the new year. Eventually, she underwent a caesarian section on January 2nd, delivering a baby boy.
Captioning her post with a Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 12:9, she shared her gratitude for God’s grace during her challenging journey.
Many other sickle cell patients have since expressed admiration for her strength and shared their own similar experiences and fears on her page.
