Shooting at Morgan State University Leaves Five Injured, Shooter Remains at Large (Watch Video)
Five individuals sustained gunshot wounds on the night of October 3 at Morgan State University in Baltimore, and the shooter has not been apprehended yet.
Campus police responded to gunfire around 9:25 p.m., discovering multiple gunshot victims and damaged windows on campus, as reported by Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley during a media briefing.
The victims, aged 18 to 22, consisting of four men and one woman, were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the commissioner. Four of these victims are students at Morgan State University, as confirmed by Morgan State University Police Chief Lance Hatcher.
In response, a SWAT team and officers from various agencies initiated a search for the suspect within the university. During this time, students and faculty were advised to shelter in place and avoid the affected area.
As of early Wednesday morning, no suspect description had been provided by the police, and it remains unclear whether the suspect has any affiliation with the university.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott called upon the individuals responsible for the shooting to surrender themselves. He labeled gun violence as an “epidemic” and urged Congress to take action.
“We’re going to find you. We won’t stop, turn yourself in,” Scott stated. He emphasized the need for stricter measures to prevent firearms from falling into the hands of those who should not possess them, stating that the current state of gun control is inadequate.
“It’s not OK. It’s not OK for it to happen at Morgan, it’s not OK for it to happen on our streets, it’s not OK for it to happen anywhere in a country that prides itself on being the leader of the free world,” he declared.
