Police Officer Dismissed for Alleged Rape of 16-Year-Old Girl in Police Detention (Watch)
A police officer in Benue has been terminated from duty on accusations of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, Nguemo Terkaa, while she was in police detention.
The State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, confirmed this incident to reporters in Makurdi on Tuesday, October 3. Onyeka stated that the dismissed constable committed the act at the Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station in Konshisha LGA and is currently facing legal proceedings.
The victim had been detained at the station on August 15 for a defamation offense. While in custody, the constable allegedly took her from her cell during the night, brought her into one of the offices, and sexually assaulted her.
After being released on bail the following day, the victim reported the incident to the Divisional Police officer, leading to the constable’s arrest and the case being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi.
Commissioner Bartholomew Onyeka emphasized, “The police force is a disciplined organization responsible for combating crime, and individuals involved in such actions are not allowed to remain within the system. He has not only been dismissed but is also facing prosecution.”
This alleged rape occurred less than a year after Belasa Iyangedue was celebrated on Facebook by friends for his successful completion of police force training.
