38 Injured in Fire Incident at Egyptian Police Headquarters (Full Video)
A massive fire broke out at an Egyptian Police Headquarters in Ismailia, resulting in injuries to at least 38 individuals on Monday, October 2, as reported by the health ministry. A police spokesperson mentioned that some of the injured received immediate treatment at the scene, while others were transported to the hospital.
The exact cause of the fire at the Ismailia building remained unclear, according to officials. Responders dispatched approximately 50 ambulances and two airplanes to the scene.
Among the 26 wounded individuals taken to a local hospital, 24 suffered from “asphyxiation,” and two sustained burns, as per the health ministry’s report. An additional twelve people were treated on-site.
Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik has ordered an investigation into the fire’s causes and called for a “structural safety review” of the building, according to a statement from his ministry.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the number of police officers and detainees who were inside the building overnight.
