“This is an injustice” – Police opened fire on peaceful demonstrators during Mohbad’s candlelight procession, resulting in numerous injuries (Video).
Videos circulating online depict a tragic incident where the Lagos police reportedly used gunfire to disperse peaceful protesters during Mohbad’s candlelight procession in Lekki, Lagos.
On September 21st, 2023, the Justice for Mohbad movement took a significant step forward as the candlelight procession and tribute concert commenced at 5 PM at Lekki Phase 1 Gate and concluded at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island.
A large number of Nigerians turned out for Mohbad, including celebrities like Davido, Zlatan Ibile, Abu Abel, Kiekie, Do2dtun, Eniola Badmus, Falz, and other concerned citizens.
Shortly thereafter, the Lagos State Police once again left many Nigerians disillusioned as they deployed tear gas against the substantial, peaceful gathering in honor of Mohbad.
This unfortunate incident led to chaos as Nigerian youths had to flee for their safety on the streets of Lekki, resulting in a stampede. Many suffered severe injuries, lost their mobile phones, and some even claimed that the police fired gunshots at the peaceful protesters.
