Luis Rubiales, the former Spanish FA chief embroiled in the Women’s World Cup kissing scandal, is reportedly putting his £1.2 million Madrid residence up for sale due to escalating legal costs.
Former Spanish FA chief, Luis Rubiales, is reportedly putting his £1.2 million residence in Madrid up for sale due to mounting legal expenses linked to the Women’s World Cup kissing controversy. Rubiales resigned from his role as Spanish FA president after facing weeks of criticism for his behavior following the Women’s World Cup final. He kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips following Spain’s victory over England in Sydney last month.
The 33-year-old footballer later asserted that the kiss was non-consensual, leading to a lawsuit against Rubiales on charges of sexual assault and coercion. Under a sexual consent law enacted last year, if found guilty of sexual assault, he could potentially face a fine or a prison term of one to four years.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Rubiales acknowledged the kiss as a “mistake” but maintained that it lacked harm, sexual intent, or aggression. Now, it appears that Rubiales may be selling his Madrid home to support his legal defense. Reports suggest that his £1.2 million two-bedroom property, featuring a swimming pool and underfloor heating, is on the market. Located near Madrid’s city center, Rubiales purchased the duplex a year ago and spent £1.1 million renovating it.
Additionally, he is already making substantial payments from a previous legal agreement, as he reportedly pays his ex-wife €800 (£689) monthly for each of their three daughters following their separation in 2013.
