Police Spokesperson Criticizes Young People for Falling Prey to Police Extortion
Police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has criticized young individuals who fall victim to police extortion. This criticism comes in response to a user’s concern about the rampant extortion of Nigerians by police officers.
The user expressed their distress, pointing out that police officers, instead of targeting politicians, are excessively extorting money from young men. They highlighted that this issue is widely known and experienced by many, including those with families and parents.
In response, Adejobi questioned why individuals with legitimate employment would subject themselves to extortion. He found it puzzling that someone who claims to be jobless and struggling financially would willingly pay large sums, such as 500,000 or 1 million naira, to corrupt officers. He speculated that such individuals might share common traits with those they accuse of extortion. Adejobi emphasized that if someone is genuinely earning a legitimate income from their work, they would unlikely allow anyone to unlawfully take it from them. This stance reflects his perspective on the matter.
