The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended an individual impersonating a Police Commissioner. The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Monday, September 11, during a press briefing on the recent achievements of the command.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the impersonator, identified as Emmanuel, was taken into custody on September 2 at around 4:40 p.m. when he visited a police facility in the Ikorodu area, presenting himself as a Commissioner of Police. However, upon questioning, it was revealed that he was an impersonator. A search of his residence uncovered a Deputy Commissioner of Police warrant card, an Assistant Commissioner of Police warrant card, a Kenwood walkie-talkie, police camouflage singlet, and a face cap.
In a related incident, another impersonator was arrested on September 4 following a complaint from the Nigeria Bar Association in the Epe Area of Lagos. The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Bello, had allegedly been masquerading as a lawyer at the Epe Magistrate Courts for several years. He was arrested while fully dressed in a lawyer’s regalia in court. Subsequent questioning confirmed his impersonation.
Among the items discovered in his possession were a portrait bearing the inscription “Bello Law Firm Office,” references to various laws, and his impersonation as a legal professional.
