Fatal Incident: Teacher’s Family Seeks Compensation After Tragic Accident
In a heartbreaking incident, a 31-year-old high school teacher lost her life when an electricity pole fell onto her during her lunch break. The family of the deceased is now pursuing a $100 million compensation for her estate.
Jeunelle Robinson, an educator at Wagener-Salley High School in South Carolina, met her tragic fate as she was struck by a utility pole that dislodged from an intersection. This unfortunate incident occurred in Wagener, nearly 40 miles southwest of Columbia, on August 23. A tractor-trailer colliding with eight power lines led to the cascading fall of poles, with one fatally hitting the cherished social studies teacher.
Witnesses recounted that Robinson, known for her genuine and gentle nature, attempted to move away from the falling pole just moments before the tragic accident unfolded.
After the incident, emergency responders rushed Robinson to Aiken Regional Medical Centers and later airlifted her to Augusta University Medical Center, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
Robinson’s family is now seeking $100 million for her estate, along with a $10 million trust designated for an annual scholarship established in her honor. The family’s legal representative has pointed out that the wooden utility pole was decades old and that the tragedy might have been averted through proper utility pole inspections.
Collaborating with Bamberg Legal LLC, the family is urging utility companies to allocate $20 million towards enhancing local power infrastructure. Additionally, they are requesting $100 million in compensation for the emotional pain and suffering endured by the Robinson Estate. The family’s lawyer, State Representative Justin Bamberg, a Democrat, also emphasized that the requested $10 million scholarship fund would benefit Aiken County students pursuing careers in teaching.
Wagener-Salley High School officials expressed their devastation over the tragedy, highlighting Robinson’s contributions and genuine connections with both colleagues and students. The accident occurred during her second year of teaching at the South Carolina school.
State Representative Bamberg believes that this unfortunate accident could have been prevented had the responsible utility pole oversight entities taken appropriate measures. He emphasizes that the failure of these entities to prioritize safety led to this devastating loss.
In response to the tragedy, the school’s football team canceled their upcoming game, along with the volleyball match and an open house event. The community continues to mourn the loss of a dedicated educator whose impact was felt deeply by many.
