Unidentified Gunmen Fatally Shoot Police Inspector and Steal His Service Rifle
Late on the night of August 25, a police inspector who was on escort duty at a well-known hotel in the DLine area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was shot and killed by unknown attackers. As per eyewitnesses, the inspector was providing security for a VIP when a group of assailants riding in a Toyota Corolla intercepted them.
Allegedly, the attackers shot the police officer and escaped with his service AK-47 rifle and beret. SP Grace Iringe Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt has been initiated to capture the fleeing culprits.
She conveyed, “On 25/08/2023 around 2030hrs, we received information that an Inspector ‘m’ from the Department of Operations, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, was fatally shot in the head while escorting his principal near Landmark Hotel at Oroworukwo Olu Obasanjo Port Harcourt. His rifle and beret were taken. Patrol teams were swiftly dispatched to the location. Our efforts are ongoing to apprehend the escaping criminals and retrieve the rifle. The deceased’s body has been placed at the Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, for a post-mortem examination.”
