Lagos State Authorities Close School Amid Allegations of 4-Year-Old Girl’s Abuse by Security Guard
The Greater Scholars International School located in Ajah, Lagos State, has been forcibly closed by the state government following allegations of a four-year-old student being sexually abused.
Taking action on August 16, 2023, the Lagos State Ministry of Education officially sealed the premises of the school, responding to grave concerns raised by the incident.
The distressing incident involved a 23-year-old security guard named David James, who purportedly assaulted the young girl on April 27, 2023, under the guise of offering assistance.
Subsequently, the suspect was apprehended and brought before Magistrate Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi of Ogba’s Magistrate’s Court 1 on a charge of sexual assault. He has since been detained.
The parents of the victim, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Olusola, had already petitioned the government to close the school on May 25, 2023, in the wake of the incident.
Voicing their concern and rallying for justice, a group of activists including friends, family members, and representatives from non-governmental organizations, displayed placards as they converged on the school premises. Their demands encompassed justice for the child and the immediate closure of the school.
In response to the latest developments, the father of the victim, Mr. Olusola, expressed gratitude, stating, “This action demonstrates the commitment of the Lagos State Government to uphold justice. We are reassured that the proper course of action will be taken.”
The court proceedings related to the case are set to continue on September 4, 2023.
