Fatal Shooting: Female Soldier Kills Captain During Curfew Enforcement in Adamawa
A female soldier in Yola, Adamawa, enforcing the government-imposed curfew, fatally shot a senior colleague at a checkpoint. The incident occurred when Lance Corporal Nkiru engaged in an altercation with civilians at Fire Service Round About, insisting that motorists returning home during curfew hours must turn back, even if they were essential workers.
Despite some individuals identifying themselves as workers on essential duty, the female soldier remained adamant. A captain tried to intervene in the situation, but she had already cocked her rifle and unintentionally fired, resulting in his death.
The victim was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, where he was pronounced dead. The female soldier was swiftly arrested and taken away by fellow soldiers. This soldier has faced multiple accusations of harassing civilians and readily resorting to cocking her rifle in minor altercations.
The curfew was imposed by the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, after hoodlums broke into a government warehouse and looted various items, including palliatives intended to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy.
