Conviction Details
On Wednesday, October 3, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), commonly known as KAI, secured the conviction of twelve commercial sex workers (CSWs) to eight months of imprisonment for offenses related to prostitution and breach of peace. This enforcement action was part of a dislodgement operation led by the Corps Marshal of the Agency.
Remarks from the Corps Marshal
Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) announced the convictions at the Command Headquarters of the Agency in Bolade-Oshodi, Lagos. He stated, “The THEMES agenda of Mr. Governor clearly stated the need for Lagos to be habitable for business, and the situation at Obalende has deteriorated over time, prompting the need for us to launch a large-scale enforcement operation against these nefarious elements that want to desecrate our environment.”

Twelve out of the nineteen suspects received the eight-month sentence, while the remaining seven, who pleaded not guilty, were remanded in custody until December 18 for further hearings.
Commitment to Law Enforcement
Cole praised the judgment and affirmed that, despite facing attacks on operatives while performing their duties, the Agency remains undeterred. He emphasized that anyone arrested for violating the law will face severe penalties.
Additionally, Cole cautioned street traders and hawkers against displaying their goods in unauthorized areas and urged pedestrians to use designated pedestrian bridges when crossing highways. He warned that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted for endangering their lives.
