The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested several individuals suspected of engaging in vote buying during the ongoing governorship election in Edo State. The arrest took place at a polling unit in Egor Local Government Area, where EFCC operatives, in collaboration with the police, apprehended three suspects—two men and a woman.
In a viral video circulating online, the suspects can be seen being escorted away from the polling station by the operatives. The arrests were made after allegations that money was being offered to voters to sway their decisions at the ballot box.
Vote buying, an illegal practice where voters are induced with cash or other incentives to vote for specific candidates, has become a recurring problem during elections in Nigeria. The EFCC has taken measures to clamp down on such electoral offenses to ensure a free and fair voting process.
