The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that officers will no longer need to stop vehicles to check their papers, thanks to the new digital Central Motor Registry Information System (e-CMR).
Real-Time Verification for Vehicle Documents
NPF spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi shared on his X handle that police officers are now equipped with advanced technology to verify vehicle documents in real time. This means vehicle owners and drivers will no longer need to carry physical papers, as all their vehicle information will be available digitally.
“No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents in real-time. With the NPF’s new e-CMR system, you don’t need to carry around physical documents. Access all your vehicle info digitally—quick, easy, and secure. If your vehicle is registered with the NPF e-CMR and gets stolen, you can instantly flag it as stolen through your online profile,” Adejobi wrote.
Improving Vehicle Recovery Efforts
The system will instantly notify all field officers nationwide if a vehicle is flagged as stolen, significantly improving recovery efforts.
In July 2024, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) ordered the enforcement of the digital Central Motor Registry system to modernize vehicle registration and enhance national security. The police expect the e-CMR to streamline vehicle ownership processes, such as ownership transfers and license renewals, while also preventing the sale of stolen vehicles and improving recovery efforts.
