Former US President Donald Trump took to his social media platform TRUTH on Sunday, September 15, to express his disdain for pop star Taylor Swift, following reports that her endorsement of Kamala Harris had little effect on voters.
Trump posted, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” in response to a poll that found Swift’s backing of Harris did not significantly sway voters, especially after the US presidential debates. Despite the attention Swift’s endorsement brought to a federal voter registration site, a poll released on Sunday showed that 81% of respondents said the endorsement had no effect on their likelihood of voting for Harris.
Minimal impact among key demographics
The poll, which surveyed 3,276 adults from September 11 to 13, found that just 8% of women under 30 were more inclined to support Harris after Swift’s endorsement, while 13% said they were less likely to, and 78% indicated it made no difference. Only 6% of the general respondents said Swift’s backing made them more likely to vote for Harris, with 13% saying it made them less likely. Notably, those who reacted negatively to Swift’s endorsement were predominantly Trump supporters.
Trump and his VP pick respond
Trump dismissed Swift’s political influence, saying, “She’s a very liberal person who always seems to endorse Democrats, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.” His vice-presidential pick, Vance, also criticized Swift, stating that Americans were unlikely to be swayed by a “billionaire celebrity” who he claimed was “disconnected from the real problems faced by most Americans.”
