In the message, Ali can be heard using racial slurs and derogatory terms, including calling Saka a “f***ing black piece of s**t” and referring to him as “a monkey.” This outburst occurred following Arsenal’s defeat to Nottingham Forest on May 20, 2023, which led to Manchester City winning the Premier League title.
Legal Proceedings and Ali’s Background
Ali, who studies law at City University in London, admitted to sending the offensive message. District Judge Briony Clarke has bailed Ali until October 8 and has not ruled out any sentencing options. Ali’s mother assisted the police in tracking down his IP address and email address.
Ali’s lawyer, Robert Moxon, stated that Ali is of Nigerian heritage and claimed that the use of offensive language was intended to express frustration rather than racial animus. Moxon explained that Ali’s comments were meant as derogatory remarks about Saka’s performance rather than explicit racial insults.
