Troost-Ekong Explains His Move to Saudi Arabia
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has opened up about his decision to join Saudi Arabia Professional Football League club Al-Khaloood. The Nigerian defender made the switch from Greek Super League champions PAOK Thessaloniki in August, after just one season, during which he won the league title with the club.
Troost-Ekong’s Decision to Secure His Future
Facing criticism for not joining a European club, Troost-Ekong shared the reasoning behind his move to Saudi Arabia. Speaking on the Counter Attack Podcast, he said the need to secure his financial future and provide for his family was a major factor in his decision.
“I got an offer I couldn’t turn down. I am 31, now I have to think about the big picture,” the Super Eagles captain explained.
Competitive Nature of Saudi Arabia League
Troost-Ekong also emphasized the competitive nature of the Saudi Premier League, highlighting the high-profile players in the league. “You see the names playing there. In my first game, I played against Benzema, Kante, Fabinho – world-class players.”
He concluded by saying, “Everybody talks about the opportunity to guarantee your future. I have to think about my family and kids.”
