Models Walk the Runway in Bold Body Tape Designs at New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week has kicked off with a bold and unconventional showcase: models walking the runway covered only in body tape.
The event, which runs twice a year, began last Friday, and already, some eye-catching designs have graced the catwalk. On Saturday, September 7, the spotlight was on The Black Tape Project, led by Mossab Alsaray from House of Paradise.
The project is spearheaded by Drakhan Blackhart, a Cuban American from Miami who calls himself the “world’s only body tape expert” and a “pioneer of body tape art.” Blackhart’s creations are minimalist, using only black tape to create revealing and unique outfits.
Instead of preparing designs beforehand, Blackhart worked directly on the runway, applying tape to models in real-time. Some models wore the tape in traditional black, while others sported metallic colors like blue and green around their wrists, with some designs featuring decorative studs.
Blackhart aims to teach and inspire others through this innovative art form, using skin-safe tape from his past projects. He initially resisted others replicating his work but has since embraced sharing his techniques and skills, which he believes has been key to his success.
