Clemson Star Diondre Overton Dead at 26 After Shooting
Diondre Overton, a former Clemson football standout who contributed to two national championship victories, has tragically died at the age of 26. According to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, Overton was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Authorities responded to a disturbance call at around 2:30 AM, where they discovered Overton as the shooting victim. Despite officers administering medical aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clemson Football’s official X account shared heartfelt tributes, posting photos from Overton’s days on the team and expressing condolences to his loved ones. His former Clemson teammates also paid their respects, including Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, who shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, saying, “Brotha I miss you already man. I love you 5L… Rest Easy Big Play.”

Overton played for Clemson from 2016 to 2019, recording 52 receptions, 777 yards, and seven touchdowns over his career. He played a key role in Clemson’s national championship wins in 2016 and 2018, and his leadership as co-captain is commemorated with a plaque outside the stadium.
