Trump Plans to Appoint Elon Musk if Elected in 2024 US Election
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that if he wins the 2024 election, he plans to appoint tech billionaire Elon Musk to his cabinet. Trump stated Musk would lead a new government efficiency commission aimed at streamlining operations and cutting waste.
During a speech at the New York Economic Club, Trump outlined his economic vision, which included reducing corporate tax rates for domestic manufacturers, creating “low-tax” zones on federal lands for new housing construction, and establishing a sovereign wealth fund. He confirmed that Musk had agreed to lead the commission, which would be responsible for developing a plan to eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months of its formation.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, previously expressed interest in the role during an Aug. 19 podcast and reiterated his willingness to serve on the commission, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that he would do so without pay, title, or recognition.
In his speech, Trump also repeated his pledge to lower the corporate tax rate to 15% for companies manufacturing in the U.S. He proposed opening federal lands to housing development to address rising housing costs and suggested banning mortgages for migrants living illegally in California, claiming without evidence that they contribute to the state’s housing crisis.
