Nigeria Police Will Torture and Kill Me If I Surrender” – Wanted Briton Claims
Andrew Wynne, a British national declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force, has stated that he will not surrender to the authorities, fearing he may be tortured and killed. Wynne, along with Nigerian national Lucky Obiyan, was declared wanted on Monday, September 2, for allegedly attempting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu by reportedly financing the recent #EndBadGovernance or #Hunger protests. A N20 million bounty has been placed on their capture.
In a statement to *Punch*, the 70-year-old Briton denied all allegations and accused the police of failing to formally invite him for questioning. Wynne expressed grave concerns for his life, citing the case of his employee, Yomi, who he claims was tortured for days after being arrested at a bookshop.
Wynne stated, “The police say, if I am innocent, I should surrender. I am innocent. Like Yomi, who is completely innocent, but was tortured for three days. Do they expect me to return to Nigeria and face the same? My fear isn’t just torture; it’s fear for my life. I don’t think I would survive the year if I came back to Nigeria.”
The situation remains tense as Nigerian authorities continue their search for Wynne and Obiyan, while Wynne refuses to surrender, fearing he may not survive the encounter with the police.
