Turkish Fans Swarm Nigerian Striker Victor Osimhen as He Arrives in Istanbul After Galatasaray Loan Deal (videos)
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has officially joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on loan after agreeing to the move from former Italian champions Napoli on Monday night.
Following a failed transfer to Chelsea, the 25-year-old found an opportunity to leave Napoli, with the Turkish transfer window still open until September 13.
On the night of September 2, Osimhen signed a one-year loan deal with Galatasaray, with no buy-back clause. During the loan period, his full salary will be paid by Galatasaray. The deal includes a release clause set at €75 million, with Napoli retaining the option to extend his contract until 2027.
Upon his arrival in Turkey, Osimhen was met with a swarm of enthusiastic fans at the stadium, showing their excitement for his arrival.
This move comes after Osimhen’s disappointment at missing out on transfers to both Chelsea and Al Ahli on deadline day. Napoli had reportedly agreed to a €70 million fee plus €10 million in bonuses with Al Ahli, with the player set to receive €40 million per season and an affordable release clause for a potential return to Europe. However, negotiations fell apart when Napoli requested an additional €5 million, leading Al Ahli to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford instead.
Chelsea, unable to meet Napoli’s financial demands for Osimhen, opted to sign Jadon Sancho instead.
