Woman Sentenced to 25 Years for Murdering ‘Sugar Daddy’ After He Ran Out of Money
Lauren Harris, 29, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of 65-year-old Mark Wilcox at his home in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, on November 20, 2023. Wilcox, a retired grandfather, had entered a relationship with Harris, offering her financial support, but the situation took a deadly turn when his funds began to dwindle.
Harris, along with her friend David Webster, 43, attacked Wilcox in his home after a night of drinking and drug use. During the attack, Harris stabbed Wilcox, while Webster used a vodka bottle to bludgeon him. At Mold Crown Court, both were given life sentences, while a third individual, Thomas Whiteley, 33, was acquitted of involvement.
The court heard that Wilcox had taken Harris into his home to help her get back on her feet, even while his estranged wife, Marcia, still lived upstairs. However, Harris exploited Wilcox’s generosity, borrowing large sums of money until his finances were strained. Wilcox withdrew £12,000 from his account over five months to support her.
On the night of the murder, after a violent confrontation, Harris fled the scene with Webster and Whiteley in Wilcox’s car, which later crashed. Police were called to the crash site and subsequently found Wilcox’s body in his home, where he had been beaten and stabbed to death. The judge, Mr. Justice Pepperall, described the attack as “sustained and vicious,” noting the lack of remorse from Harris, who did not testify in her defense.
Harris had a history of violence, including a previous conviction for unlawful wounding involving a knife. Despite her denial of involvement in Wilcox’s murder, she was found guilty, while Webster, with a record of violence, received a minimum term of 23 years.
Wilcox was remembered by his family as a generous and caring individual who always put others before himself. Harris, who had no fixed address, will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison.
