Update: Justin Timberlake Suspended from Driving Following DUI Re-Arraignment
American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake has had his driving privileges suspended in New York nearly two months after his arrest on DUI charges.
The pop star, currently on tour in Europe, appeared virtually in a Sag Harbor courtroom on Friday for a re-arraignment on the drunk driving charge from June 18. Timberlake, joining via video link from Antwerp, Belgium, pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving while intoxicated.
The judge announced Timberlake’s driving suspension in New York due to his refusal to take a breath test at the time of his arrest, though the duration of the suspension was not specified.
The re-arraignment follows a request by Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke Jr., to dismiss the case due to errors in the original charging documents. Instead, the judge ordered the re-arraignment with revised paperwork from the prosecutors.
Burke withdrew his motion to dismiss during the Friday hearing. Judge Carl Irace also criticized Burke for his previous public statements about the case, labeling them as “irresponsible” and warning that further comments could lead to a gag order.
Additionally, Judge Irace cautioned that Timberlake might be required to attend future court hearings in person. Another hearing is scheduled for Friday, August 9, which Timberlake is not obligated to attend.
