Students at Ogun Polytechnic supposedly died from eating spaghetti (Watch)
Tragic events unfolded at Gateway Polytechnic in Ode-Remo, Ogun State, as two students and an applicant of the school lost their lives under mysterious circumstances. According to a report by Punch, the bodies were discovered on July 12, 2023, although the cause of death remains unknown.
The incident occurred after a group of four students and the applicant, who was awaiting admission, allegedly experienced stomach problems following a meal of spaghetti. Unfortunately, two of the students and the applicant did not survive.
The deceased have been identified as Bakari Habbeb, an ND2 student in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology; Odu Selen, an ND1 student in the Department of Mass Communication; and Hameed, an applicant for the 23/24 academic session.
A circular jointly signed by the Student Union President, Olatunji Idowu Alexander, and the SUG PRO, Tanimowo Joel, confirmed the incident and assured that investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.
The circular expressed the Student Union Government’s grief over the loss and pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Oluwole Folashade, stated that they were not aware of the incident and would look into it upon receiving more information.
In light of the unfortunate deaths, the school has postponed the second-semester examination originally scheduled for July 17 to July 19. A circular issued by the Head of Public Relations, Adebayo Folorunso, urged students to remain calm and assured them that the management is aware of the situation.
