Two people are reportedly missing after a flood swept through Trademore Estate in Abuja.
The flood occurred in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, June 24, following a heavy downpour.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that two individuals were carried away by the floodwaters.
The area around the estate’s gate was severely affected, with prolonged rain leaving hundreds homeless and causing significant property damage.
A video circulated on Monday morning showed the estate almost completely submerged, with belongings seen outside homes in the rain.
“This is Trademore Estate. We are pleading with the federal government. Two people just died, carried away by the water. Please, FCT minister, do something. We are begging. The police station is gone. These are people’s homes, and water is everywhere. Minister of FCT, Honourable Wike, please come to Trademore Estate. People are dying. Two people just died this morning. What a pity.”
Flooding in this estate has been a recurring problem every rainy season, prompting the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to promise action, but nothing has been done so far.
