Journalist Found Dead in Abuja Days After Being Reported Missing
A journalist working at Atar Communication, which owns Liberty TV/Radio, named Joe Waksi, was tragically discovered deceased on Wednesday, June 19th, in Abuja. His body was found five days after he was reported missing.
Joe Waksi, an On-Air Personality (OAP) at the media company, had left the office around 9 pm on Friday and was expected to return by 2 pm the next day.
Balarabe Muhammad, the Group General Manager of Atar Communication, confirmed the incident to DailyTrust, stating that the police from Mpape division informed them that Joe’s body was found near Panteka area and was taken to Kubwa General Hospital morgue.
Muhammad mentioned that Joe Waksi had been stabbed in the neck and his phone was missing. He suspected that the attack might have been a case of phone snatching. Two months earlier, Joe had survived a similar attack where he was stabbed in the abdomen and had received treatment.
According to Muhammad, Joe was supposed to be on break until Monday after working a late night, but due to changes in the schedule among colleagues during public holidays, he was expected to return to work the next afternoon, which unfortunately didn’t happen.
Known fondly as Joel among his colleagues, he was described as a diligent and highly creative staff member.
