Two Women Who Claimed French First Lady Brigitte Macron is Transgender Are on Trial for Defamation
Two individuals who asserted that the French First Lady, Brigitte Macron, is transgender are now facing a defamation trial.
The proceedings against the two women, who propagated false claims about Brigitte Macron being transgender, have started.
In 2022, Brigitte Macron initiated a libel lawsuit against the two women after they released a YouTube video in December 2021, alleging she was previously a man named “Jean-Michel.” This assertion gained significant attention shortly before the 2022 presidential election.
Amandine Roy, a self-identified spiritual medium, appeared in a Paris court on Wednesday to address questions regarding the interview she conducted with Natacha Rey, an independent journalist who was absent due to illness.
Roy, 49, interviewed Rey for four hours on her YouTube channel, during which the journalist discussed the “state lie” and “fraud” she claimed to have exposed.
Roy stated that Rey was “eager to share her findings” and that she had simply “agreed to her request.”
Regarding the authenticity of the allegations, Roy emphasized that Rey “had conducted three years of research; she didn’t fabricate it.” Roy expressed regret that “mainstream media didn’t pick up and investigate this serious matter.”
Neither the 46-year-old president nor the 71-year-old first lady attended the court session.
There were numerous social media posts asserting that the first lady, formerly known as Brigitte Trogneux, was a fabricated identity and that her brother, Jean-Michel, had transitioned and taken on that identity.
The unfounded claim also resulted in graver allegations of child abuse directed at France’s first lady. “The damage is extensive; it spread widely,” stated Brigitte Macron’s attorney, Jean Ennochi.
He requested 10,000 euros ($10,750) in damages for both Brigitte Macron and her brother.
