Although born in Argentina, Santi Gimenez represents the Mexico national team. He embarked on his club career at Cruz Azul in Mexico, making his professional debut in 2017. After an impressive spell at Cruz Azul, he joined Feyenoord in July 2022. Throughout the 2022-23 Eredivisie season, Gimenez’s exceptional goal-scoring abilities played a vital role in Feyenoord’s title triumph.
Despite having the option to represent Argentina, Gimenez chose to play for Mexico due to his strong connection to the country, where he spent most of his life. He received his first call-up to the senior national team in September 2020 and scored his debut goal for Mexico in a friendly match against Chile in December of the same year.
Gimenez’s defining moment came during the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup Final when he scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, leading Mexico to victory over Panama. His goal secured Mexico’s ninth Gold Cup title, solidifying his status as one of the standout performers of the tournament.
Football talent runs in the family as Santi Gimenez is the son of former Cruz Azul player Christian “Chaco” Gimenez. Off the field, he is known for his strong faith, having been baptized in January 2019. Santi Gimenez is also married to Mexican model Fer Serrano.
