Davido Asserts Himself as Global Leader of Afrobeat Following Wizkid’s Abandonment of Title. Renowned artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has asserted himself as the global frontrunner in the Afrobeat genre, just days after Wizkid relinquished the title.
During a recent interview with Nadine Graham of Billboard, the CEO of DMW confidently interrupted the interviewer’s portrayal of him as the king of Afrobeats in the US, asserting his dominance “everywhere.”
Davido emphasized his position as the global leader of Afrobeat, aiming to deliver nothing but “just good music.” He added, “And it’s crazy because people in jail have heard my music.”
The artist disclosed his ongoing work on two albums—one catering to the African audience and the other targeting the American market.
Highlighting his favorite collaborative effort, Davido mentioned “2 AM,” featuring Casanova and Tory Lanez, noting its successful fusion of American, Canadian, and Nigerian cultural elements.
