Pure water might soon be priced at N100 per sachet, according to the Association of Table Waters Producers (ATWAP). Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the association highlighted challenges such as high diesel costs, power shortages, and expensive production materials.
The group emphasized that the current pricing of water reflects the country’s economic situation. A representative stated, “Pure water is currently sold for N50 and could rise to N100 per sachet. We’re facing high production costs.”
Last December, nylon materials cost N1,100 per kg, but now they’re at N3,600/N3,700 for 6 kg. Treatment expenses have also surged, sometimes tripling within a week. Despite these challenges, increasing water prices is difficult.
The representative expressed concern about affordability for ordinary Nigerians, stating that water producers fund their factories personally or with borrowed money, as banks often deny them loans. They urged Nigerians to understand their predicament, aiming to keep sachet prices under N20 despite rising production costs.
