Teen’s Tragic Death Follows Cruel Bullying Related to Mother’s Health Issues
Isabelle Vezina-Dykeman, a 14-year-old freshman at the Mill School in Winooski, Vermont, tragically ended her life after being subjected to relentless bullying. The bullying stemmed from her mother’s health condition, specifically after a brain surgery that left her with a visibly affected eye.
A Promising Start Turned Tragic
Isabelle had been excited to start her freshman year at Mill School, an alternative high school designed for students with complex needs. However, her mother, Heather Miller, shared that Isabelle was teased not only at school but also through cruel text messages mocking her and her mother’s appearance. The bullying reportedly centered around Miller’s post-surgery appearance, leaving Isabelle devastated.
A Mother’s Heartbreak
On September 15, Isabelle returned home visibly upset. Her mother, believing it was best to give her daughter some space to decompress, tragically discovered that within 35 minutes, Isabelle had taken her own life. “I thought I was doing the right thing,” Miller tearfully told WCAX, adding that the loss has completely shattered their family.
The School’s Response and a Legacy of Saving Lives
Mill School has since launched an investigation into the bullying allegations. In a statement, they expressed their devastation and are providing counseling services to those affected. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Isabelle’s organs were donated, saving the lives of seven people, including giving the gift of sight to another child.
Isabelle’s story is a sobering reminder of the tragic consequences of bullying and the lasting impact it can have on families and communities.
