Music legend Janet Jackson has stirred debate after suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris may not be Black, a claim that echoes controversial remarks made by former President Donald Trump.
The Guardian Interview
During an interview with The Guardian, Jackson commented on the upcoming election and Kamala Harris’ potential to become the first Black woman in the White House. She mentioned hearing rumors that Harris was not Black but rather Indian. When corrected by the interviewer, who noted that Harris is of both Black and Indian descent, Jackson insisted, “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
Kamala Harris’ Background
Kamala Harris has consistently identified as Black, emphasizing her Jamaican-American father and Indian-American mother. Harris has also embraced both sides of her heritage throughout her political career, which includes breaking barriers as the first Black and South Asian Vice President of the United States.
Jackson’s Comments on the Election
In addition to her remarks on Harris’ identity, Janet Jackson expressed concern about the upcoming election, suggesting that the country may face unrest, regardless of the outcome. “I don’t see a peaceful transition of power,” she stated, signaling skepticism about political stability in the near future.
