Brooklyn Tow Truck Theft Incident
The NYPD has apprehended Russell Laiosa, the 55-year-old East Islip resident, following his dramatic and viral theft of a tow truck in Brooklyn. Laiosa was arrested on Monday after allegedly creating chaos in Sunset Park while trying to prevent his vehicle from being repossessed.
The Incident Unfolds
Last Friday, Laiosa confronted a tow truck operator who was attempting to tow his truck. According to police, Laiosa demanded the tow truck operator “put [his] f***ing truck down” before commandeering the tow truck and taking it on a reckless joyride through the Brooklyn neighborhood.

Damage and Arrest
The stolen tow truck caused considerable damage, crashing into several parked cars. Laiosa’s own truck, still attached to the tow truck, eventually overturned and fell off the hook. In the video footage of the incident, Laiosa can be seen abandoning the tow truck and fleeing on foot.
Charges and Legal Consequences
Following a few days of investigation, authorities tracked down and arrested Laiosa. He faces multiple charges, including one count of robbery in the second degree, one count of grand larceny auto, two counts of reckless endangerment, and eleven counts of property damage and leaving the scene of an accident.
