Arsenal has secured the future of their manager, Mikel Arteta, by extending his contract for three more years, keeping him at the club until 2027.
Arteta’s New Contract and Achievements
Mikel Arteta, 42, has been Arsenal’s manager since 2019. Under his leadership, the team has achieved successive second-place finishes in the Premier League. His new contract extension comes as he was entering the final year of his previous deal.
The extension was announced just before Arsenal’s highly anticipated Super Sunday match against their North London rivals, Tottenham. In his debut season, Arteta led Arsenal to an FA Cup victory in 2020 and secured two Community Shield titles in 2020 and 2023.
Arteta’s Vision and Commitment
Arteta expressed his enthusiasm for the new deal, stating, “I feel extremely proud and excited about what’s next. I’m fortunate to work with such dedicated people and to have strong relationships within the club. We have big ambitions, and I feel both inspired and challenged.”
He added, “Our supporters have played a crucial role in transforming the club. We are different now, and that’s thanks to them. I look forward to continuing this journey together with our fans.”
Arsenal’s Performance Under Arteta
In Arteta’s first two seasons, Arsenal finished in eighth place, missing out on European football for the first time in 25 years. However, the team showed significant improvement, finishing fifth in the 2021/22 season and qualifying for the Europa League. The following seasons saw Arsenal achieve successive second-place finishes behind Manchester City, marking their return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
The 2023/24 season was particularly notable, with Arsenal winning their highest-ever number of Premier League games (28) and amassing 89 points—just two points behind Manchester City. This represents a significant improvement of 33 points since Arteta’s arrival, demonstrating a steady increase in the team’s performance each season.
