Female Police Officer Charged for Stabbing Herself to File Fake Compensation Claim
A female police community support officer (PCSO) is facing serious charges after allegedly stabbing herself in an attempt to make a fraudulent compensation claim.
Olivia Morphew, 24, reported being attacked with a knife in Esher, Surrey, in June 2022. However, investigations have led to accusations that Morphew staged the incident in order to file a compensation claim for her injuries.
Morphew is now scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 12. She is charged with perverting the course of justice, fraud, and possession of a knife in a public place.
The charges come after a thorough investigation conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC began investigating the case following a referral from the police force in July 2022.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the IOPC said, “Our investigation concluded in April 2023, after which we submitted our findings to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS has now authorized the charges.”
This case has raised significant concerns about the integrity of compensation claims within law enforcement and highlights the importance of thorough investigations in cases involving public officers.
