Beyoncé Stands Firm: ‘I Don’t Need Music Videos to Sell My Music
Beyoncé is doubling down on her decision not to release official music videos for her smash-hit albums *Renaissance* and *Cowboy Carter,* emphasizing that her music stands on its own merit.
In an exclusive interview with *GQ*, the global superstar addresses the controversy surrounding her unconventional approach to promoting her albums. Rather than following the traditional music video release strategy, Beyoncé explains why she chose to focus solely on the auditory experience.
“I felt it was important, in a time when everything is so visual, for the world to focus on the voice,” she says. “The music is rich with history and instrumentation. It takes time to absorb, research, and truly understand. I wanted the music to have its own space to breathe.”
Beyoncé elaborates that visuals, in some cases, can detract from the essence of her work, particularly since one of the albums took over four years to complete. “The music is enough. The fans became the visuals. We saw it on tour, and even more through the film I released,” she adds, referring to her documentary concert film *Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé*. The film has been a hit, grossing over $44 million at the box office, offering fans an intimate look at her creative journey.
Though Beyoncé hasn’t released traditional music videos, she has offered lyric videos and visualizers for tracks from both *Renaissance* and *Cowboy Carter,* providing a middle ground for fans.
Despite her overwhelming chart success, Beyoncé’s move into country music has met with some resistance. This week, she was notably excluded from the 2024 CMA Awards, failing to receive a single nomination despite her strong chart performance.
Still, with both albums debuting at No. 1 and her fanbase—the Beyhive—standing firmly behind her, it’s clear that Beyoncé’s music speaks louder than ever, even without the visuals.
