Army Hands Over Suspected Killer of Abducted FUNAAB Student to Lagos Police
The Nigerian Army has handed over Adeleye Ayomide, a 23-year-old murder suspect, to the Lagos State Police Command. Ayomide is accused of killing Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State.
The Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the handover in a statement on his X account on Thursday. He wrote, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to #LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade #HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing.”
Lt-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the Nigerian Army’s 81 Division, also confirmed the arrest, stating that the 9 Brigade would transfer Ayomide to the Lagos Police for further investigation.
Christiana was abducted on August 19, 2024, along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State. Reports indicate that Ayomide, allegedly a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, kidnapped and killed Christiana after collecting a ransom of N350,000 from her family.
