Jennifer Lopez Files for Divorce from Ben Affleck After Two Years of Marriage
American actress Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from her husband, Ben Affleck, following two years of marriage. The divorce filing took place on Tuesday, August 20, in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court documents. Notably, the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, a source close to Lopez revealed.
Lopez and Affleck’s love story has been a long and winding one. The pair originally got engaged in the early 2000s after meeting on the set of the film “Gigli” in 2002. However, they broke up before making it down the aisle and spent 17 years apart. During that time, Lopez was married to singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014, with whom she shares two children. She was also engaged to former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez in 2019, but they split in 2021.
Affleck, on the other hand, married actress Jennifer Garner in 2005, a marriage that lasted until 2018. They have three children together.
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021 and announced their engagement in April 2022, nearly 20 years after their first proposal. The couple tied the knot on July 16, 2022, in a Las Vegas ceremony that was both intimate and spontaneous. They obtained a marriage license from Clark County, Nevada, and joined other couples in line at a chapel just before midnight.
Lopez shared details of the wedding through her fan newsletter, “On the J Lo,” expressing their joy: “We did it. It was the best possible wedding we could have imagined—one we dreamed of long ago and made real.”
However, rumors of trouble in paradise began circulating in May when tabloids reported that the couple had not been seen together for weeks. Speculation intensified as reports emerged that Affleck had moved out of their shared home, which was subsequently listed for sale, and into his own residence.
The news of their split has come as a shock to many, marking the end of a much-publicized Hollywood love story.
