Man High on Molly Kills Girlfriend, Covers Body with Acai Powder to ‘Revive’ Her: Police
A 25-year-old woman from Hawaii, visiting her boyfriend in Washington State, was found dead in a gruesome scene that has led to her boyfriend being charged with her murder. Authorities made the horrifying discovery while responding to a report of a flooded apartment.
Andy Chu, 25, has been arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of his girlfriend, Zoey He, also 25. Firefighters discovered He’s body on August 10, around 10:30 a.m., in Chu’s Lake City apartment after neighbors alerted authorities to water leaking from the unit.
According to court documents obtained by TooFab, the victim was found in the bathroom wearing only red underwear, with an ice pack on her throat and a “dark granular substance,” later identified as acai powder, covering her body. Her head was supported by a block, and she was posed in a “butterfly position.” She had suffered severe traumatic injuries to her face, neck, chest, and head. The sink in the bathroom was running at full blast.
The exact time of the murder is unclear, but Ring camera footage from a neighbor shows the couple returning to the townhouse with groceries around 4:45 p.m. on August 9. Chu was later seen leaving the apartment alone around 8:00 a.m. the following morning.
Chu’s whereabouts were discovered in the early hours of August 11 after he allegedly groped a nurse at the University of Washington Medical Center. Friends had taken him there due to his “psychotic behavior.” Police, realizing Chu was the suspect in the ongoing homicide investigation, took him in for questioning.
In his statement to police, Chu described a “crisis condition” that led him to flee his apartment. His account was described as “fragmented and difficult to follow,” with Chu expressing confusion over what was real. He claimed his girlfriend, whom he had been dating since January, was “acting weird” and allegedly attacked him, though he couldn’t describe the details of the attack and denied any fighting between them. He admitted to thinking he “may have killed her.”
Chu reportedly recalled choking He, twisting her neck, and holding her under the water in the bathtub. He then removed her from the tub and placed her on the floor, attempting to revive her by sprinkling acai powder on her body and placing a ball, similar to a golf ball, in her mouth to “fix her jaw.”
Chu also admitted to taking MDMA and smoking marijuana before the incident. He said that while he usually took one pill of MDMA, this time he had taken two. Medical examiners later determined that He’s cause of death was asphyxiation.
A friend who had taken Chu to the hospital described him as being in “some sort of crisis,” making erratic movements and noises. Chu now faces a first-degree murder charge and an additional battery charge for the alleged assault of the nurse. He is being held at King County Jail on a $5 million bond and is due back in court on August 28.
