Katy Perry Responds to Controversy Over Music Video Filming on Protected Dunes
Katy Perry has presented a strong defense amidst the controversy surrounding her recent music video. Her record label, Capitol Records, has provided documentation showing that they received approval to film on the protected sand dunes of a Spanish island.
This comes after the Spanish government launched an investigation into Perry’s decision to film the “Lifetimes” music video on the environmentally sensitive dunes of S’Espalmador. Capitol Records responded swiftly, stating they had secured all the necessary permits to shoot in the area.
According to a representative from Capitol Records, although one permit was pending when production began, they claim they received verbal approval from authorities the day before filming commenced on July 27.
The label emphasized, “We adhered to all regulations associated with filming in this area and have the utmost respect for this location and the officials tasked with protecting it.”
This response contrasts sharply with the position of the Spanish government’s environmental department for the Balearic Islands. The department accused the music video’s production company, WeOwnTheCity, of not obtaining the required paperwork to film on the dunes.
While the dunes are being investigated for potential damage and the area has been cordoned off, the department clarified that they do not consider the incident a “crime against the environment,” but rather a violation of their policies.
This incident adds to a tumultuous summer for Katy, who in June faced backlash for collaborating once again with controversial producer Dr. Luke on her upcoming album. Though Perry has largely stayed out of the fray, it seems she can’t avoid the spotlight entirely.
