Plane Lands Safely After Tires Burst, Propeller Breaks, and Window Shatters
Passengers on a flight from Algeria narrowly escaped disaster when two of the plane’s tires burst during takeoff, causing a propeller to break and shatter a window.
The Bombardier DHC-8-402Q Dash 8, carrying 45 passengers, was departing Rhourd Enous Airfield on Saturday, August 3. During takeoff, both tires on one of the plane’s wheels burst, as shown in photos.
Debris from one of the burst tires struck a propeller, breaking off a blade tip that then smashed into a passenger window.
The pilots shut down the engine and successfully made an emergency landing back at the airfield. Remarkably, none of the 45 passengers were injured.
“The crew managed the situation skillfully, following standard procedures to return and land on the same runway without any damage or panic,” said Tassili Airlines in a statement.
The passengers, believed to be workers from Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned oil company, were later transported to their destination on another aircraft.
