Halle Berry’s Attempt to Force Ex-Husband Olivier Martinez into Co-Parenting Therapy Denied
Halle Berry‘s effort to compel her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, to participate in co-parenting therapy has been unsuccessful. Berry sought to resolve disputes regarding their ten-year-old son through these sessions.
Berry, 57, and Martinez, 58, married in 2013 and had their son, Maceo, the same year. They separated in 2016, and their divorce was finalized in August 2023.
Berry claimed that Martinez was postponing their agreed-upon co-parenting therapy to take a summer break. However, a judge dismissed Berry’s request, citing a “lack of exigent circumstance.”
The couple had agreed in May to attend therapy to address their conflicts and improve co-parenting for their son. According to court documents reviewed by TMZ, Berry alleged that Martinez delayed the sessions until September without consulting her or their therapist, and missed July sessions due to travel and August sessions due to a family visit.
Berry argued that, given the therapy is conducted via Zoom, Martinez’s travel was not a valid excuse. She sought to enforce the original schedule, which required completing six joint sessions by June 14.
Berry’s legal team contended that Martinez’s absence was detrimental to their son’s well-being, as he was reportedly involved in their disputes and acting out. Martinez’s team countered, claiming Berry was using her resources to force Martinez into submission, and asserted that the request did not meet the criteria for an emergency order.
In May, it was revealed that an adult and child psychiatrist would facilitate their co-parenting therapy, determining the session’s structure and frequency. The couple was to have one solo session and at least six joint sessions by mid-June.
Berry’s boyfriend, Van Hunt, 54, who started dating her in September 2020, may also participate in the sessions, as indicated by court documents.
