Kamala Harris Wins Democratic Nomination for U.S. President
Kamala Harris has officially secured the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, according to Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison. In an announcement made during a campaign update video call on Friday, Harrison confirmed that Harris had received the majority of votes from Democratic delegates.
“I am proud to announce that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the Democratic Party’s nominee after the voting concludes on Monday,” Harrison said.
He praised the delegates for their swift submission of nomination petitions and their clear message: “We are not going back. We need to send Kamala Harris to the White House.” Despite some technical difficulties during the call, Harrison emphasized the delegates’ dedication to the process.
In response, Harris expressed her honor at being the presumptive nominee and reaffirmed her commitment to fighting for the presidency. “I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States. As your future president, I know we are up to this fight, and when we fight, everyone will say, ‘We win,'” she stated.
If elected in November, Harris would be the first woman to serve as President, adding to her historic role as the first woman, Black person, and person of South Asian descent to serve as Vice President. This announcement follows President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the reelection race and his endorsement of Harris on July 21.
