A protester in Kenya bravely faced tear gas from a canister thrown by Anti-Riot police during demonstrations against the #RejectFinanceBill2024.
Kenyan youth have shown courage protesting the bill on the streets. At least 22 citizens have died in the protests from police gunfire.
Despite this, Kenyan youth remain determined and continue to protest. During one incident, tear gas was thrown at protesters, and one protester caught the canister and appeared to inhale it.
He even shared it with another protester. The young man joked about wanting it with strawberry flavor. This incident marks a rare case of tear gas being inhaled intentionally.
After days of protests, Kenya’s President William Ruto reversed course dramatically, announcing the withdrawal of the controversial tax bill.
However, despite the President’s announcement, Kenyan demonstrators plan to resume protests on Thursday, June 27.
Leading protesters dismissed his remarks, including Hanifa Adan, who called it a PR stunt following earlier violence at rallies.
Adan stated earlier that protesters would “march peacefully again in white, in memory of our fallen,” with some planning to bring flowers.
“You cannot silence all of us,” she emphasized. Another protester, Nelly, criticized Ruto’s actions as too little, too late, and vowed to join Thursday’s march.
“He should have acted sooner, without people having to die,” she asserted. “We march tomorrow for a better future for Kenya.”
